I was just 9 years old when this one hit. Down 0-2 after the lockout shortened 50 game season, our ragtag 8th seed squad the first (and, the ‘23 Heat, only) true 8 seed ever to reach the Finals refused to die. Madison Square Garden was absolute bedlam. Allan Houston went off for 34 points (12-12 from the line). Latrell Sprewell added 24 with 5 boards and 5 assists. Marcus Camby and the crew filled in for Patrick Ewing (Achilles injury from the ECF) and forced 20 turnovers from the Spurs’ Twin Towers: young Tim Duncan (20 & 12) and Admiral David Robinson (25 & 10). We stole one and cut the series to 2-1. Pure end of the Millennium chaos and Y2K panic in the air. Star Wars Episode I still buzzin and guess who is there: Spike & Stiller. The score is as much a sign of the times as it was a testament to the grind it out basketball these two teams played. The Spurs were riding an 12 game win streak coming in to this one which is 1 more than the Knicks have currently. GUESS WHOS BACK!

Pretty good game for New York’s last win in the NBA Finals. I was not alive so I didn’t get to watch this game live. Looking back, this game was both close and kinda one-sided. This game had no lead changes and aside from 0-0, this game was tied once for about a minute. 58-58 with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter after an 8-0 run for the Spurs. Fittingly, that tie was broken up by an Alan Houston 3-pointer and the Spurs never led again. As a matter of fact, New York led for 46 minutes in this game. Yet, at the same time, New York almost never led by double digits, meaning the Spurs were always in striking distance, the Knicks just held them off. Defense was the name of the game, in both sides, but specifically for the Knicks, they had to stop Tim Duncan. TD had been unstoppable and New York did a much better job slowing him down here. Even then, the Spurs never truly went away and it was up to Houston and Sprewell to close them out, which is exactly what they did in the 4th.

i love vintage ball. the sound, the atmosphere, the look, the score bug, something about is just feels right and makes the viewing experience so much better than what it is now. (for me at least personally) onto the game, it was an absolute thriller and just seeing the garden in straight pandemonium was electric to see. allan houston…… need i say more? i love sprewells game and the three point shot he hit before the end of the first quarter which caused knicks fans to break the sound barrier was massive momentum just to be shutdown seconds later by a nasty three by daniels on the opposite end. TIM DUNCAN WAS THAT MF!!! there’s a bank shot he hits around the 3rd maybe 4th quarter that’s just so gross i had to rewind the tape. duncan robinson as well just an elite facilitator all around. lastly i love film so im not ending this review without shouting out the legend spike lee. matter a fact go light a spike lee joint and go watch do the right thing. it’ll change your life. promise

The NBA was really so different 27 years ago. This series lasted 5 games, and neither team hit triple digits once. Nowadays, if you don't score 100, you'd be lucky to not lose by 30. Obviously, it was a much more physical game, and the things that guys like SGA do nowadays weren't happening at all, but it really is so interesting to see how basketball has progressed since the start of this century. 9 three pointers were made between the two teams in this game. Now, you see guys getting 9 three pointers in a game on their own.

it almost hurts watching this game knowing that the mid range shot is essentially dead in the modern game. spreewell was awesome in this game. also can't help but think how cool this game would have been to attend. from the highlights i've seen the garden looked crazy. after seeing the ticket prices for this year i hope the true fans still have a way to be in the building 😬

This game was all Knicks and for sure was gonna be there win in the Garden. This series they would go on to lose but looking at the Spurs team now we know they had a super team in the making. Can Brunson change the tides and finally win them a series against what could be the same team? Bigger question is where he would rank in all time Knicks conversations?
